At the recent Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, held in Fredericton, Dr. Margaret Conrad, Professor Emerita, University of New Brunswick, received the 2011 Society for Digital Humanities/Societé pour l’étude des Media Interactifs Award for Outstanding Achievement, Computing in the Arts and Humanities.

Launch of Narrative Works

Narrative Works is an online, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal developed by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Narrative at St.Thomas University. Narrative Works is a venue for disseminating scholarly work related to narrative that does not fit neatly within established disciplines, publishing work by theorists, researchers, and practitioners working on a wide spectrum of topics that cut across conventional academic boundaries.

History of Education in New Brunswick Site Revision

The ETC has recently completed a revised digital edition of Katherine MacNaughton's The Development of the Theory and Practice of Education in New Brunswick, 1784-1900: A Study in Historical Background. The new digital edition includes a full search function, and the text is available for online viewing, download in PDF format, or as an e-pub version for use with e-book readers. Several minor typographical errors have been corrected throughout the HTML version.

SSHRC-funded text analysis project to examine Loyalist and Acadian discourses

The ETC is pleased to support "Vocabularies of Cultural Identity," a SSHRC-funded text analysis project led by Dr. Chantal Richard, professor with UNB's French Department in the Faculty of Arts. With research and technical partners at both UNB campuses and l'Université de Moncton, the project will bring comprehensive, comparative text analysis to two contemporaneous corpora from the 1880s: speeches of the first three Conventions nationales acadiennes, and writings from the Loyalist Centennial celebrations in Saint John.

Information session: Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Lyle Smith, co-ordinator of the electronic theses & dissertations project at the ETC, will be hosting an information session for graduate studies supervisors in the Faculty of Nursing. The session aims to introduce faculty to e-theses and dissertations (ETDs), the process of creating an ETD, and resources available to students developing ETDs. Meet Geoffrey Allen, the ETC's new Digital Projects Librarian

The ETC is pleased to welcome Geoffrey Allen as Digital Projects Librarian. Geoffrey is a recent graduate of the MLIS program at Dalhousie University. While there, he worked in Archives and Special Collections and chaired the committee that organised this year's very successful Information Without Borders conference. During his studies, Geoffrey also worked as a teaching assistant in management and information literacy, and as a research assistant at the Social Media Lab.

Digitization project launched: Freethought Today

Freethought Today, the official newsletter of the Freedom from Religion Foundation, reports on matters related to separation of church and state. Because back issues of the newsletter can be difficult to locate, Stephen Sloan, a librarian with UNB Libraries, has been working with the Foundation to digitize past issues for publication online. Developers at the ETC worked with Stephen to develop a Drupal-based website to house the newsletters, available at: http://vre.lib.unb.ca/freethought
